Chandon Hornblower Cruise & Fleet Week Fun

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! Sorry to be MIA yesterday…I usually blog on Monday’s but yesterday just slipped away and before I new it, it was 5pm and by then I don’t like putting up a blog post that late in the evening so I decided to wait until today!

I want to use today’s post as a recap of the fun we had Saturday to celebrate part 2 of our Anniversary celebration. We celebrated with tickets for the Hornblower Cruise, and this particular event was being sponsored by Chandon which of course included all you can drink Chandon wines and champagne – yes please! ;) – and during the cruise we would be entertained by the Blue Angels show and passed appetizers…sounded good to me!

Below is a recap of the photos from the fun day we had…and we had quite an extravaganza getting up to the city too. We took Caltrain which was fine, but then tried to figure out how to get to the Hornblower dock without us having to walk the 1.5 miles since my boots were definitely not made for walking. So we crossed our fingers and hopped on the Muni bus (a first for us!) and we didn’t know what we were doing, but thankfully we made it to the Embarcadero station and from there walked a bit to the dock…it was a fun lil excursion ;)

And we could not have asked for more perfect weather. If you’re from around here, then you know that San Francisco is known for chilly temps and fog, but none of that happened on Saturday. Temps were in the mid 70′s and we had clear blue skies all day…it was absolutely perfect. And I don’t have any pics of our food (try taking still photos while in 4 inch stiletto boots while on a swaying boat ;) ), but we do have lots of other scenic photos that I want to share with you all…enjoy!

I have to take a moment and mention too how absolutely amazing and emotional the Blue Angels show was for me. I had never before experienced jets fly over my head that close to me before and just imagining the men in those planes doing that for us was just a very emotional, powerful feeling for me. And we met a lovely couple whose son is a Military Fighter Pilot and hearing them speak of their son with these powerful planes soaring above us really brought on an emotional feeling inside me…it made me so proud of our country and how grateful and proud I am to be an American. Todd and I already made planes plans to definitely go again next year along with the whole family as it definitely reminded me of my dad since he’s a pilot and he would have loved the show so very much…until next year Blue Angels :)

Ferry Building Marketplace Fun

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all having a great Tuesday so far. Today I’ll post about what we did Sunday to recap the rest of our Anniversary celebration…if you missed what we did Saturday, you can read yesterday’s post.

I’m sure the title of the post gives you an instant indication that Sunday we spent the day at the Ferry Building Marketplace. It was a blast and one that we already have plans to recreate again in the near future. I had actually only been there one other time with my sister a couple years ago, but other than that this was my second time there and the first with the hubby!

So that we didn’t have to worry about driving, Giants game day traffic, and parking, we took the train up to the city and it was such a fun, relaxing way to travel into San Francisco. While we were waiting for the train it was around 12:30 and the train wasn’t coming until 1:00…we were planning on lunching in the city but that would have meant for a 2:00 lunch…no thank you. And grumbling tummies don’t make for happy travelers so we ran across the street to La Cumbre Taqueria and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Hubby filled his belly with a beastly burrito and I got one of the best taco salads – it was ginormous and filled with losta black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, salsa, and an amazing cream avocado sauce (pictures below for proof!).

Once we got there, we walked the 1.5 miles from the train station to the Ferry Building – roundtrip we clocked in a good 3.0 miles of walking for the day, whoo hoo! We then enjoyed a delicious array of food from the renowned Hog Island Oyster Co. and had by far the most delicious oysters ever. I should preface that by saying I absolutely despise oysters, so my liking them was pretty huge ;)

Then we continued our foodie fun by stopping into a couple markets and then a cute french pastry shop called Miette caught my eye and I spied delicious looking macaroons. I’ve never tried one before so we got one for each of us to enjoy, me the Vanilla and hubby the lavender chocolate one.

We then stopped into a wine market and bar called Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant where we enjoyed a round of drinks and a tasting plate called the Boccalone Salumi and Cowgirl Cheese Combo. It comprised of a Mt. Tam Cowgirl Creamery Cheese, an assortment of meats from Boccalone Salumeria, peach chutney, and the most delicious loaf of bread from Acme Bread Co. We then topped it off with a sweet treat from Ciao Bella Gelato, me the Cookie Dough and the hubby Coconut – It.was.epic :)

It was an absolute perfect way to celebrate our Anniversary and I can’t wait to celebrate Part 2 in a couple weekends on October 8th for the Hornblower Cruise during Fleet Week!

So without further ado, here are the pictures of our fun filled day at the Ferry Building Marketplace. Enjoy! (click on an image to see it bigger)
