Sushi Love – Ozumo

Hi friends! Hope you’re all having a great day so far. This morning was a lil rough getting up since I’m a grandma and all and need 8 hours of sleep…and any less and I’m a zombie which is exactly what happened. Although I would definitely take less sleep for the amazing time we had last night with our new friends…hi Kristin and Dave! :)

Dave is a friend of my husband’s and I just met him and his lovely wife for the first time last night…we had a blast together at Ozumo and it was a wonderful evening with awesome company and delicious food :)   Since I’m still fairly new to blogging, I tend to feel awkward taking pictures in restaurants but we were in San Francisco and anything goes there (;))…I don’t think anyone even noticed!

Before I begin, here’s my outfit for the evening. Maxi dress from Express…we were having perfect summer weather for it too!

We arrived at Ozumo a bit early to beat traffic so we sat at the bar while talking with our friend Brian who is the General Manager Ozumo. He bought us a round of drinks (hubby – Sapporo, me – diet coke), along with the most amazing warm, garlic edamame. It was to die for and hubby professed his love for it quoting, “I’d like to take a bath in this it’s so good”. Yes it was pretty spectacular. I didn’t get a pic of it at the bar but we ordered it again once we were seated with our friends since they had to try it…

I wanted to eat every piece of that garlic but tried to control myself in front of our new friends ;)

Since I’m no longer drinking alcohol for our Getting Ready plans and thus the DD, I stuck to my diet coke while the hubby and friends enjoyed cold Sake…

Down the hatch!! :)

And then it was time for our first of two appetizers that comes complimentary with your dining experience…

Sorry for the blurry photo, I was trying to be quick! And I don’t remember how the waitress described this dish but it’s some type of raw fish and corn relish (like a ceviche) on top of a chip and cucumber. Whatever it was it was good!

Second complimentary dish…

Raw fish atop avocado with a type of soy sauce and cabbage…the avocado and fish together created a delicious creamy texture and the flavor was rich with a salty and sweet bite to it.

The menu is a bit overwhelming and the prices are a bit high so we stuck with what we were sure to be happy and satisfied with eating – sushi! Shared between the hubby and I…

Yasai-Maki – Seasonal vegetables with a tart ume plum sauce

Sekiwake – Spicy Tuna Roll with tobiko, tempura flakes, salmon, hamachi and peanut sauce

Dragon – Tempura Shrimp Roll wrapped in grilled unagi and avocado, with sweet soy sauce – my fav!

We then ordered dessert shared by all that was insanely delicious. Sadly I forgot to snap a pic but it was the Dark Chocolate Fondue – Warm Belgium chocolate fondue with fresh fruits.

It was fun night with our new friends and a very pleasurable dinning experience. We hope to go there again very soon and order a whole bunch of different items off their menu – Ozumo will definitely be seeing us again! :)

Boy was I glad I made the decision yesterday to workout and have today as my rest day because I more than needed that extra hour of sleep…it was much welcomed ;)

I was not only sleep deprived but felt like a human walking salt shaker after all the sodium I consumed last night (ooph!), so nothing sounded more appealing than a smoothie for breakfast…

1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk and 1/2 cup Non-fat milk (I ran out of Almond so had to use some regular milk)

1 frozen banana

1 scoop Casein Vanilla Protein Powder

1 tsp. xanthan gum

Peanut Butter Puffins

Hope you’re all having a great day so far and I’ll see you all back here tomorrow!

Questions: Do you like sushi? What are your favorite types (rolls, sashimi, nigiri) of sushi to order?

  1. Ummmm…could I have one of each please?! I remember that garlic edamame and it is lovely!! And yes I do love sushi! My fav is probably the spicy tuna variety and of course anything with a tempura involvement! But nothing will beat Nobu! Now my (our) fav is not necessarily the sushi (although its great) but if you go you must get the miso cod lettuce wraps. It is so amazing I can’t even describe it! Right Sis? If I was on the food network show it would be one of the best things I ever ate- maybe the salty sweet or sweet n savory episode. So here’s to Nobu and the loveliness that happens there. Speaking of which, when are we going back??

  2. you are making want to run out a get sushi right now! Sushi is one of those foods that just make me so happy! i always love to try whatever special crazy rolls they offer (they are usually fried, but whatever, they always taste delicious!) and I always default to the philly roll.

Just don’t ever be tricked into trying sea urchin! if you ever hear someone tell you its good, i would highly question them :) I was tricked into trying it once at Nobu … its the one piece of sushi i met and did not like!

  3. LOVE the Maxi dress!! You look fabulous, as always :)

That avocado and raw fish dish sounds absolutely incredible… I’m sure it totally melts in your mouth from the sound of it.

It’s been ages since I have been out for sushi… I actually picked sushi up for my boss today and was like man, I need this in my life soon it has been way too long!
